Human Design Centres — all nine, and what defines them
What the centres are
The bodygraph divides into nine centres, and the 64 gates are distributed across them. Each centre is a specific area of function — some are read as steadier, some more given to fluctuation — and what happens to a centre depends entirely on which gates within it are activated and whether those gates complete a channel out to another centre. This is arithmetic, not description of temperament: a centre is defined when a complete channel connects it elsewhere, undefined when it holds an active gate but no completed channel, and open when nothing in it is activated at all. Four of the nine — Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart and Root — are motor centres, and their state matters directly to how type and authority get computed. Each of the nine pages in this hub takes one centre on its own terms: what it’s built to do when defined, what tends to happen in it when it’s undefined, and what changes when it’s fully open. None of this is temperament literature. It’s a description of a mechanical layer that sits underneath the more familiar language of types and authorities, and it rewards being read slowly, one centre at a time, rather than skimmed as a checklist.

How to read these pages
Each centre page stands on its own — there’s no need to read all nine in sequence, and no ranking implied by the order they appear in. None of it describes a fixed fate; a defined centre is a place of consistency, not superiority, and an open one a place of openness, not deficiency. The chart tool shows you which of these nine are yours, and reading the relevant pages against your own configuration is where this material actually does its work.
