What Channel 7–31 is

Channel 7–31 runs between the G centre and the Throat centre, and it forms only when both Gate 7 and Gate 31 are activated. A channel of this kind is not something a person practises or develops — it is a fixed position in the bodygraph, a wire that either exists or does not, depending on where the relevant planets sat at two calculation moments: the moment of birth and the moment roughly three months prior. Nothing about temperament or intention changes whether the wire is there. The chart is read as it is drawn, and a channel between two centres is either a complete circuit or an absence, with no partial state in between.

The two gates that make it

One end is Gate 7, in the G centre, rooted in the I Ching hexagram Sze. The other is Gate 31, in the Throat centre, rooted in the I Ching hexagram Hsien. Either gate alone is only a potential — a single activation defines nothing on its own, and forms no channel. Each gate carries its own separate meaning and page, and is not covered further here; this page concerns only what happens when both are present together and the wire between them closes.

What it defines

When both Gate 7 and Gate 31 are active, the channel completes and defines both the G centre and the Throat centre. Neither end of this particular wire sits at a motor centre, so this channel does not, by itself, create the motor-to-Throat wiring that determines type — that mechanism depends on other connections. What it does do is settle these two centres into a fixed, dependable state for the person carrying it. In the system’s account, a defined centre behaves consistently — it operates from a stable internal pattern rather than shifting with whoever is nearby. An undefined centre, by contrast, tends to be more variable, more responsive to context and to other people’s definition in that area. This is offered as the system’s own framing of how definition and openness behave, not as a claim about a person’s fixed nature.

Interpretively, this pairing is sometimes described as a steadying line of direction — a quiet sense of where one stands paired with a settled way of putting that into words.
